My Background

My educational background includes a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Maine in Child Development and Family Relations. I have a Master’s degree in Counseling and a second Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida. I hold certifications in Elementary teaching, school counseling K – 12 and administration K – 12. My personal interests have led me to additional education and certifications in Trauma Informed Practices and Social/Emotional Learning, Family Trauma Professional, Individual Trauma Professional, Circle of Security Parenting Skills, Prepare and Enrich Pre-marriage and Marital Support Trainer and True Colors Certified Personality Assessment Trainer.
I have had the pleasure of working in the field of education for 36 years as a teacher, counselor and school principal. In my consulting work, I have had the opportunity to present material to over 80,000 educators in groups as small as 6 and as large as 4800. I use my counseling certifications to work with couples, families and individuals to enhance our relationships with ourselves and others.

Peace By Piece

Recently released “Peace by Piece” is a trauma narrative in two parts. Part 1, “What You Hear in the Dark” is a first-person presentation of my childhood experiences of extreme emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Part 2, “You Must Speak in the Light” is the 20-year therapy journey to recovery and a life of joy and peace.

This book can be purchased via traditional sources such as Amazon or Barnes and Nobles, however, if your organization wishes to purchase multiple copies, please reach out to me and I will offer an “author discount”.

I am also available to speak with book clubs, Facebook live groups, Book Talks, Book Signings, Key Note and Breakout Sessions as requested.

Forward Facing for Educators

A Journey to Professional Resilience and Compassion Restoration. With over 34 years of experience and many years of research, Dr. Eric Gentry has established 5 important strategies to avoid compassion fatigue and professional burnout. While his work has largely been with healthcare professionals and law enforcement agencies, I had the honor of working with him to write our book through the lens of an educator. We are at a crisis level of burnout in our field. It is part of my mission, with trauma informed work, to teach the educators who are working so hard to take care of the needs of children how to take care of themselves. With a Forward Facing approach, we can learn to do more than survive every day and instead live in the joy and fulfillment that led us to our work in the beginning.

This book is offered with accompanying training as an 8 month book study, a three day model or 4 half day sessions.
